Rev. Lydia Brannon
Pastor Lydia Brannon was born in Aberdeen, Scotland and grew up there with the exception of her 6th grade year spent in Canada while her dad was a visiting professor. When she was 15, the whole family moved permanently to the United States so her dad could become a professor at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. She finished high school and earned a degree in physics, then spent several years as a graduate student and working in New Mexico and Arizona.
She discerned a call to the ministry and spent the early 2000s in Ohio, graduating from Trinity Lutheran Seminary in Columbus in 2005. After a year with Lutheran Service Corps in Omaha, she served three years as a pastor in Brenham, Texas. Unfortunately, it was then 2009 and the recession turned out to mean a lack of new pastoral openings. Pastor Lydia eventually moved to Oregon to escape the Texas heat and await a new call.
God may have been behind this, because in Portland she met future husband Tom! They married, settled in Vancouver and have two children, Ryan born in 2014 and Alistair born in 2016. Tom grew up in Salem and has degrees in political science and criminal justice. He worked in several parts of the country before settling in Vancouver to be near family. He has worked as a surgical tech in Labor and Delivery at St Vincent’s (Portland) since 2006.
